Book Launch – 19 June 2020
Boris Verbrugge and Sara Geenen will discuss their new book Global Gold Production Touching Ground: Expansion, Informalization, and Technological Innovation, on 19 June 2020 from 14.30-15.45.
The book zooms in on the increased diversity, connectivity, and informality in the global gold production system. It combines analysis of structural trends in global gold production, with case studies from twelve countries: Brazil, Peru, Colombia, Burkina Faso, Guinée, DR Congo, Uganda, Zimbabwe, Madagascar, Indonesia, Philippines.

Cuba: Living Between Hurricanes – Climate, Commodities and Sustainability (Cuba: Vivir Entre Ciclones – Clima, Mercancías y Sostenibilidad)
This documentary film explores the impacts of extreme weather events and global commodity frontiers on the natural environment and local communities in Cuba’s Caibarién-Remedios region, where Hurricane Irma – one of the most powerful ever to sweep the Caribbean – made landfall on September 9, 2017.
